Connect Telegram

Get incident and recovery messages in Telegram, and handle them from the chat.

What you get

  • A message when a check fails 3 times in a row, and another when it recovers.
  • Acknowledge and Resolve buttons on every alert. The incident records who pressed them.
  • Bot commands: /status, /mute 30m|2h|1d (up to 7d), /unmute, /stop to disconnect the chat, /help, and /id for support.

Connecting it

  1. For yourself: in Alerts, press Connect Telegram, open the link and press Start.
  2. For a teammate, a group or a channel: under Invite on Telegram, press Create link and send it. They press Start, or you add the bot to the group or channel and open the link there.
  3. For one person on the team: press Link Telegram next to them on the Projects screen. That link only works for them.
  4. Every link works once and expires in 7 days. You can revoke it until it is used.

Plans

Free covers 3 destinations, people only. Paid plans cover 10, 20 or 30, groups and channels included. On Free the bot leaves any group it is added to.

Checking it worked

Press Send test on the chat's row in Alerts. If the message lands, delivery works.

When it does not work

No Telegram option in Alerts
A self-hosted instance needs the bot token and username in Settings first.
The bot says the link is out of date
It is an old ?start=prj-… link. Create a new one in Alerts.
A link won't work
Links work once and expire after 7 days. Create a new one.
Nothing arrives in a group
The bot must be a member and allowed to post. Telegram drops a bot's messages without any error when it can't.
Alerts arrive late
Telegram rate-limits bots, so in a big outage messages queue. Detection isn't delayed, only delivery.
